Statics - The fundamental principles

Kennedy Class II

Construction principles

Statics according to the laws of balance and leverage.

Example:

  • Kennedy Class II
  • Upper unilateral
  • free-end saddle

Klammerspitze

Widerstandshebel

Angriffshebel

Belastungspunkt

Static balance is attained by slightly reducing the load arm (e.g. by positioning the last molar out of contact). An indirect occlusal rest, away from the free-end saddle, improves the statics and prevents the premolars from tipping.

Sattelnahe Abstützung

Sattelnahe Abstützung

Sattelferne Abstützung

Entlastungszone

The final base design is an achievement of static balance and yet delicate, elegant design.

Example:

  • Kennedy Class II
  • Lower unilateral
  • free-end saddle

Angriffshebel

Entlastungszone

Klammerspitze

Widerstandshebel

Indirect occlusal rest at free-end saddle. Direct occlusal rests at the unilateral gap.

Maximum extension of the saddle zone at the free-end saddle. Strong, rigid connection at the lingual bar.
